What is 18xx? 18xx is a family of railroad-building, ans stock-trading board games. The 18xx system was originally concieved in the late 70's by English game designer Francis Tresham for his groundbreaking game, 1829. There are now nearly 100 different titles in the family, each with their own unique setting, and character. 18xx is considered by some to be the ultimate in table top gaming. There is no random element in 18xx. That is: no dice, no spinners, no card shuffling. The outcome of the game is determined only by the actions of the players! The game alternates between operating rounds, where players attempt to build the greatest railroad network, and share dealing rounds, where players buy and sell stock in the railroad companies they are building. The board is a map, overlayed with a hexagonal grid. Players build railroad networks by laying hexagonal tiles on the grid. The tiles represent track, which will connect the cities on the board, forming routes. Board Games with Scott 046 - 18xx from Scott Nicholson on Vimeo.
